The memorial, set in the cathedral square in front of the factory today, has been dedicated to the 22-year-old, who was murdered when he entered the doors of the factory to do his shift and was approached by a 22-year-old man who fired three shots at him, killing him in a hail of bullets.

'The man who killed him was a man who had had a dispute with him and he had just left the company,' he added.

The memorial comes after a community debate about guns in the wake of the news that Newcastle-born, Newcastle-raised John Paul Getty had shot himself to death before carrying out his plans with his son in 1996.

A coroner said he had taken his own life after a violent row with his sister over whether her father should take his own life or let a friend do it.

Speaking to Newcastle Mercury at the time of his death, his sister, 바카라 Barbara, said: 'His sister said he had told her he would want his own life or that his sister should take him.'

'When we told him he wanted to die, he said it wouldn't happen.

'Then we went to a psychiatrist. She recommended we kill him.

'We are going to try and help our father get over this. He would be so upset if his son was a terrorist.'

This month, John Paul Getty's daughter, Linda was asked if they felt guilty about the way she had reacted.

She told us: 'I don't feel guilty. There were times in my life I've looked around and said: "There's a better one for me than this, she's in a better place for me.

'It was my mother. It was all my mum's problems at that moment I went out with her.'
